This is to discuss infrastructure selection and potential sponsorships for the API. The infrastructure selection is dependent on what type of tech stack we end up choosing in this issue.
It has already been discussed that we do not want to use any of the major cloud service providers as their lack of ethics do not align with the ethical guidelines of this project.
Linode was mentioned as a potential sponsor but I cannot find mention of general sponsorship. I was only able to find sponsorship for hackathons.
Digitial Ocean has a sponsorship and with a bit of work I think we could get qualified for a $250 yearly credit.
This would cover the expenses for a $15 a month server with regular backups. That seems like it's larger than we'd need initially and I don't know if we'd also need cloud file storage for image assets or not.

How much should the potential for sponsorship affect the decisions around the tech stack selection?
Does the project have any sort of budget outside of sponsorships?
There are a couple of requirements to get the sponsorship from Digital Ocean. Do you see any issues with them?
There are a couple of expectations around keeping the sponsorship with Digital Ocean. Do you see any issues with them?
